Hidden Inlet Resort is located inside Misty Fjords National Monument on the Pearse/Portland Canal, about 50 air miles southeast of Ketchikan. We are the only commercial operation within the Monument’s millions of acres. Our resort was built on the site of the historic Hidden Inlet Cannery.
The cannery operated from 1913 to 1959, and chose this location for the incredible abundance of fish in the inlet, as well as being a deep, safe harbor. One of the original buildings was sold and barged to Ketchikan and converted to an historic hotel. Other buildings were sold (or stolen) and barged out. The large white stacks of the remaining processing buildings are clearly visible from the air. Three of the original cabins were refurbished and are in use as housing for staff and management.
Upon arrival, you will stow your gear in one of 4 newly-built log cabins. After you purchase your Alaska fishing license, you may explore the Resort or just relax after your trip. Each cabin has a fully-equipped kitchen stocked for breakfast during your stay. Lunch is provided daily on the boat.
A hearty evening meal is served family-style in our enclosed dining pavilion which is built over the waters of Gwent Cove. From the balcony, you can watch the seals and eagles hunt the waters of the cove … or you can enjoy good conversation, full bar, card tables and our gift shop.
Your dinner will always include our very own “fresh catch of the day” harvested from our crab & shrimp pots set daily in the waters of Hidden Inlet. The Hidden Inlet area produces some of the largest Dungeness crabs in Alaska.
Fishing starts on Monday morning and continues daily through Friday. Guests will board a 45-ft. 6-pack with plenty of deck space to avoid the “party boat” atmosphere. Our experienced guides will be on hand to help as needed. We do our best to target the species of your choice, and we recommend a full day of fishing to maximize your chances for success. When our fish boxes begin to fill up, we usually switch to bottom fishing for halibut, ling cod, and red snapper.
You’ll return to the resort around 6 p.m. each evening for dinner in the pavilion. If you’re still in “fishing mode”, you can use our skiffs to troll in front of the Lodge after dinner.
