Hidden Inlet Resort is built on the historic site of the original Hidden Inlet cannery. The cannery was built in 1911. Numerous buildings burned and were rebuilt many times.
It remained in operation as a highly successful salmon cannery until 1954.

In an epic undertaking, the main bunk house, which survived many of the fires, was jacked up from its foundation and loaded onto a barge. The 40 X 70 foot, hundred ton, three story structure miraculously remained in tact during it’s 70 mile journey through the Portland canal to open ocean and finally to the city of Ketchikan. It is now the home of the George Inlet Resort and restaurant.
Many of the smaller buildings or living quarters were removed or stolen over the years and barged to various locations. The remaining structures had served as a temporary overnite home to many adventurous kayakers traveling through the Portland canal during the cannery’s many abandoned years.
The property was purchased in 2002 and opened as Hidden Inlet Resort for its inaugural season in 2005. Beautiful new log cabins have been built for our guest, and the few remaining original buildings have been restored to their original beauty and serve as living quarters for the owners and staff as well as storage.
